Vice Minister Wang expressed his support towards CLSPI’s membership in
FIG and hoped that the membership will intensify efforts towards better
policies, programs and practices within the area of land management and
administration in China. His Ministry’s aims include making a better future
for all through sustainable land management and uses. During the dinner and
interaction with Vice Minister Wang and his officers, President Teo was made
to understand that there are approximately 300,000 land managers and
administrators in China and the seniors in their ranks are members of China
Land Science Society. Vice Minister Wang wishes to see China Land Science
Society becoming a member association in FIG. Towards the end of the
evening, President Teo extended an invitation to Mr Wang Shiyuan to FIG’s
2012 General Assembly and Working Week in Rome, Italy.
During the visit to China Land Surveying and Planning Institute on 25th
July 2011, President TEO met Mr. CHEN Guoshen, Vice Secretary General
of China Land Science Society and was informed that the Society was
established in 1980 and membership is voluntary. One of its functions
include registering and issuing permit to practise as land use planners.
Earlier in the afternoon of 25 July 2011, Ms Gao Pin together with
Prof. Zhao Song (Director, Land Value Division) and Ms Rosy Liao
received President TEO at the Institute’s premises in Beijing and in a
presentation, introduced the functions and responsibility of the Institute
in PR China. The Institute also acts as a “think tank” within the Ministry
and areas of activities include land use planning, land survey and
evaluation, cadastral management, land policy, remote sensing, land pricing
and land information. Current initiatives of CLSPI include establishing a
national cadastral database that will include what is generally understood
as private and public lands as well as a unified national land registration
system.
CLSPI is keen to play its role as an affiliate member and to contribute
towards the success of various FIG initiatives as well as willing to play
host to FIG’s activities and events in China. CLSPI wishes to advance the
sciences and practices related to land, in particular, planning, use and
management in China and wishes to explore with FIG the possibility of an
international symposium or workshop on innovative and unified system of
national land registration, seeking to learn from the experiences and best
practises of others in this area. CLSPI reiterates her desire to intensify
its engagement with FIG, its commissions, networks and task forces.
President Teo welcomed this, encouraged CLSPI to tap into the knowledge
bank within FIG and its extensive series of publications and suggested that
CLSPI may want to translated some of these publications into Chinese for the
benefit of those working in these fields. CLSPI is also encouraged to
actively participate in FIG activities, in particular those that are related
to the roles and responsibilities of the Institute.
