FIG President Stig Enemark visits the Institution of Surveyors of KenyaNairobi, Kenya, 19 April 2007
President Stig Enemark visited the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK) as part of participating in the UN-HABITAT Governing Council Meeting in Nairobi, 13-20 April, see http://www.fig.net/news/news_2007/nairobi_habitat_gc_04_2007.htm The visit to ISK included a lecture at the University of Nairobi on Thursday 19th April. The lecture was attended by 200 surveying students and all key surveying staff as well as key persons from ISK and the surveying profession. After a range of introductory speeches President Enemark presented a lecture on the future of the surveying profession entitled “From Measurement to Management”. The lecture was followed by a small reception where President Enemark had the opportunity to meet and discuss with the students. In the evening of Thursday 19th April the ISK had arranged a reception at the Stanley Hotel attended by around 100 members of the profession. Speeches were given by the Chairman of ISK Mwenda Makathimo and FIG President Stig Enemark. The reception provided for the opportunity to meet and discuss with the Kenyan surveyors covering all of the FIG disciplines. At the same day the new Kenyan Land Policy was published in the daily newspaper. This was quite a coincidence since ISK has had a very strong input in designing this policy. ISK has also engaged heavily in solving some of the key land issues related to informal settlements and pro poor land management. By undertaking these tasks ISK has shown a responsibility to society that deserves great attention and respect.
